Every Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., bar pianist Ulli Seidler rings in the weekend musically at our Düsseldorf store, playing his interpretations from a selection of modern pop classics.
We asked him 3 quick questions.
How did your musical journey as a bar pianist develop and what factors inspired you to take this career path?
My good fortune was growing up in a musical extended family. Ever since I can remember, the piano and piano music have been my constant
companions in life. During my professional training and afterwards, I discovered and developed my exceptional piano playing style.
Can you tell us about a particular moment that stuck out in your mind during your tenure as a bar pianist and why it was so meaningful to you?
From a young age I was fascinated by Udo Jürgens; not so much from the compositions, but from the always dreamlike sound of his piano playing. He also had a special relationship with the piano. He knew that every piano also has its own soul. As a guest at the Breidenbacher Hof, Udo Jürgens praised my playing style and expressed his enthusiasm, which honored me and built me up.
What kind of preparation precedes your performance? Are there certain practice or warm-up rituals that you do before each performance to get into the right musical state?
Before performances, I need to relax a bit after I get there...rushing around is not good for my soul. Drink some delicious coffee, warm up my hands, take a look at the audience ... and I'm ready to go!
